Pros of ceramic flooring

One reason why ceramic flooring is quickly gaining in popularity is that it simply looks fantastic. It’s an elegant, gorgeous type of flooring for just about any room in your home. Not just that  it’s also very durable and easy to maintain. Ceramic tiles won’t chip very easily perhaps not for decades after installation so ceramic flooring will significantly increase your home’s resale value. If you plan on selling your home anytime in the near future, ceramic flooring is probably a very worthwhile investment. Ceramic flooring has a timeless appeal that appeals to just about every potential buyer. Plus family and friends who visit will be wowed when they see your beautiful ceramic flooring.

Here are some other reasons why ceramic tile flooring may be the right choice for you:

  • Glazed ceramic tile flooring requires very little maintenance. Simply vacuum and dust it  no other cleaning is necessary and as long as it’s sealed, it withstands water really well. That’s why ceramic flooring is a popular choice for kitchens, bathrooms, and other high-moisture areas.
  • They’re generally nontoxic (as long as nontoxic grout is used). They’re an especially wise choice for those who suffer from allergies. If you have pets, ceramic tile is an excellent choice because they’re easily cleaned and the hard surface withstands a dog’s nails.
  • Ceramic tiles are available in a variety of styles and colors to suit any home’s aesthetic perfectly.
  • If you have a radiant floor heating system, your tile floors will stay nice and warm and cozy.

Cons of ceramic flooring

While there are many benefits to ceramic flooring, not everyone decides it’s the best choice for their home. There are some drawbacks that you should keep in mind when considering whether you want to get ceramic flooring.

  • If you don’t have a radiant floor heating system, ceramic flooring can be rather cold in the cooler months. You’ll have to wear slippers if your feet easily get cold.
  • Ceramic flooring is best left to the professionals to install. Special saws are needed to cut the tiles, and once the mortar starts to dry, it’s very unforgiving. For ceramic tile to look best, you’ll need it to be professionally installed. Don’t bother attempting to DIY.
  • Tile has no insulation properties and doesn’t dampen sound in a room. You may choose to get some area rugs and runners to provide insulation and muffle sound.
  • Glazed tiles can be slippery when wet, though many of the newest models have anti-slip surfaces to remedy this problem.
  • While tiles are very durable and can withstand many years of heavy foot traffic without breaking, if something heavy is dropped on ceramic tiles, they can chip or crack, and repairs can be expensive.
