All about vinyl flooring
Vinyl flooring comes in either tile or sheet form. One perk of vinyl flooring is that it’s one of the least expensive forms of flooring. It’s been gaining popularity in recent years as high quality styles have cropped up on the market. Vinyl flooring is available in a wide range of colors, designs, and styles.
Installing a new vinyl floor
If you’re more of a DIY-type person, vinyl tiles may be an ideal option for you because they’re pretty easy to install, especially if you purchase the kind that feature self-adhesive backing. Sheet vinyl, however, is a whole different undertaking. Sheet vinyl is much more difficult for non-professionals to install, so we recommend that if you choose this material, you let the experts at Monarch Carpet, Drapery & Upholstery handle all your installation needs. It will definitely look fantastic and you won’t have to deal with any installation hassles.
Advantages of vinyl flooring
There are many advantages of vinyl flooring. As we mentioned before, it’s inexpensive compared to other flooring materials. Vinyl has a slightly softer surface than other options such as tile or wood, so it’s easier to stand on for long periods of time. There are hundreds of vinyl styles, some of which mimick the look of stone tiles and wood planks, that make it really hard to tell whether it’s vinyl or some other, more expensive flooring material. Vinyl is super durable, resists dirt and water, and can easily be installed over any subfloor. It also requires almost no maintenance tasks – just keep it clean and you’ll be good to go for many years to come.
Drawbacks of vinyl flooring
Before deciding that vinyl is the right choice for your home, you should know about these drawbacks. Vinyl is manufactured using polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which emits volatile organic compounds (VOC), especially when it’s new. However, many manufacturers have started using less PVC in their vinyl flooring products. While vinyl tiles are easy to DIY install, if you have a subfloor, preparing it properly can prove to be rather tricky. The subfloor needs to be free of all particles, or they will show up as bumps and lumps in the vinyl tiles. If your subfloor is dirty in any way and you install vinyl tiles, they’ll become loose. Also if you drop a glass on a vinyl floor, it may gouge the surface. Special care needs to be taken when moving furniture on vinyl flooring to avoid damaging it.
